PEOPLE of all ages will be doing their bit to support Pudsey in aid of the annual Children in Need appeal.

More than 2,000 children across Worcestershire have led the way in helping disadvantaged children and young people across Britain by taking part in a synchronised ‘Massage for Pudsey’ event last week.

Ahead of the live television broadcast on BBC1 tomorrow, a total 10 schools took part in the programme, which was based on a specially devised weather story and delivered by Kidderminster-based Go Wellbeing. This helps to create a relaxed and happy learning environment for children.

It saw children draw pictures using hand massage techniques to create different weather scenarios on the back of the child in front of them. Those taking part included 216 pupils at Dines Green Community Primary School, 300 at Cranham Primary School, 21 at Gorse Hill Community Primary School and 136 at Welland Primary School.

Rachael Huff, headteacher at Welland, said: “Everyone enjoyed the massage event for Children in Need. Pupils came to school in their own clothes and it was an exciting opportunity for them to take part in a special activity for charity.”

Yesterday, staff and students at South Worcester College’s Evesham and Malvern sites impersonated South Korean pop sensation PSY in a Gangnam Style dance. They also baked some treats for a cake sale tomorrow. Children throughout the county are also being asked to join a nationwide ‘bounceathon’ by jumping up and down on their garden trampolines in return for donating some pocket money to the appeal.

The Get Britain Bouncing campaign, which runs until Sunday, is being supported by the national trampoline manufacturer, supplier and retailer, Super Tramp, which will be counting up all the hours bounced across the country. To get involved, go to getbritainbouncing. org.uk.

Malvern-based charity Arcos is staging a number of quizzes and games to support the appeal at its office in Hatherton Lodge, Avenue Road, throughout the month, between 10am-4pm Monday to Friday. The charity has received funding from Children in Need to set up a sensory room and music room as part of its SMILE (Sensation and Movement Interaction for Life Experience) project.

Meanwhile, Jade Parkins and 17 friends have already collected £416 after they took to Victoria Square, Droitwich, for a dance in their pyjamas which took place on Sunday. The 12-year-olds’ event also saw youngsters performing Irish dance routines and having their faces painted. Members of staff at The Malvern Spa Hotel, Grovewood Road, Malvern, will be taking part in a 15-hour cyclethon on a static gym bike in the hotel’s reception from 6.30am tomorrow. And about 40 girls from the junior section of Malvern Springs Netball Club will be donning their pyjamas for their training session in the sports hall at Dyson Perrins CE Academy tomorrow.

Games, a teddy raffle and the sale of Children in Need memorabilia will raise funds at Pershore Workingmen’s Club, High Street, Pershore, on Friday. Children at Bewdley Primary School will dress in their spottiest clothes and sing throughout the day tomorrow, starting at 8.40am in the playground with their parents and teachers. A tea and coffee morning will be held at the office of Foster Care Co-operative in the Haysfield, Spring Lane North, Malvern, tomorrow from 10am-2pm.
