AN intrepid walker trekked 176 miles across Wales on her own to raise money for St Richard's Hospice.

Angie Carver, who semi-retired from Great Witley Surgery two years ago, decided to raise money for St Richard's in memory of five friends by walking from Prestatyn to Chepstow.

She said: "It took 11 days in all and was a lot harder than I first thought, but was well worth it.

"I was overwhelmed with the generosity of all the people who have donated to such a good cause, and have raised £1,150 for the hospice."

Alison Weston, St Richard's Hospice Community Fundraiser said: "We are really grateful to Angie for undertaking such a gruelling challenge to help raise money for the hospice. We rely on generous donations from the community to help raise the £2.8m we need each year to pay for our services and every penny is important."

The new St Richard's Hospice at Wildwood Drive, Worcester, includes all the previous free services, plus specialist hospice beds.

Providing the services costs £2.8m annually, mostly raised by voluntary donations.
