THE parents of a Worcestershire toddler have vowed to do all they can for him after being told his cancer has returned.

Two-year-old Charlie Harris-Beard, who has a rare type of leukaemia, was given weeks to live this week when test results confirmed the disease had come back.

Charlie had acute myeloid leukaemia diagnosed when he was 10 months old and has since received treatment at Birmingham Children’s Hospital.

His mother Fiona Harris, who is orginally from Droitwich, and father Joe Beard have said they have not given up and are looking for possible treatments in America.

Meanwhile they will focus on their charity work – the family have set up the charity Cords4Life to raise awareness of umbilical cord donations in the UK – as well as providing Charlie with happy family moments.

The couple, who now live in Kidderminster, set up a Facebook page, Help save baby Charlie Harris-Beard, to chart their experiences and it has gone on to receive 14,150 ‘likes’.

Mr Beard said: “We will carry on with the charity work whatever happens with Charlie as that was set up because of him – that won’t come to a standstill.

“The more money we can get the better, so we can start helping the Anthony Nolan Trust and cord banks around the country.

“We want to spend as much quality time with Charlie, and take him on day trips with his sister and grandparents, to get some good memories.

“We are trying to keep positive and get as many smiles on his face as we can.”

Today the couple are due to visit Gods of Ink II tattoo studio in Worcester’s Cathedral Plaza where they will have a portrait of Charlie etched on their bodies.

Other events they already have planned include Charlie being mascot for West Bromwich Albion’s game against Chelsea tomorrow and trips to the Severn Valley Railway and Peppa Pig World with the whole family.
