TALKING of rural life, we should not forget that village existence was once much harder than it is today.
Uncle' George lived over the road from us and worked on the same farm from the age of 13 to his retirement at 65. Once he had hung up his old coat for the last time, he was obliged to leave the place of his birth and live in the town.
Such was the reality of the tied cottage system.
