A COUNCILLOR fears someone will be killed at an accident blackspot in a Worcestershire village if something is not done.

At last week's Powick Parish Council meeting, Worcestershire county and Malvern Hills district councillor Tom Wells said there had been numerous accidents on the Old Hills bend on the B4424 outside Callow End, near Worcester.

He said: "I have brought this to the attention of the police and the accidents studies team at County Hall, because residents have seen a catalogue of accidents in the last 12 months. Not all of those were attended by the emergency services, and as a result they do not appear on the official statistics. We are having bumps and shunts on a monthly basis and I am desperately concerned that someone's going to be killed before anything is done."

Coun Wells said he did not know if the road surface was contributing to the accidents, but said vehicles were continuously leaving the carriageway.

"The number of accidents is extraordinary," he added.

"We have got to do something about that bend."

Worcestershire County Council's highways department said the road was going to be inspected.
