YOUNG bookworms made their way through more than 12,000 books this summer.
Children were encouraged by Worcestershire County Council to read a different book each week of the six-week school holiday.
This year's theme was spies, centred on Anthony Horowitz's Alex Rider series, which was recently turned into the film Stormbreaker.
Children who took part have been awarded medals.
Jennie Bashforth, director of adult and community services at the council, said: "The feeling of pride and achievement is visibly noticeable in the children - such activities are vital to the life blood of our libraries and for keeping children enthusiastic about reading."
Children interested in taking part next year should ask at their local library.
