STUDENT police officers have been practising their stop and search skills on 20 pupils from Worcester Sixth-Form College, to ensure they are able to carry them out properly on patrol.
As part of a West Mercia Constabulary learning programme, the sixth-formers attended a stop and search training session at Blackpole.
PC Ian Hones, from the force's training school, said: "Police officers have a legal right to stop and search members of the public. However, this procedure must be done in the correct way, so it is vital that our student officers know exactly how to carry it out.
"These sessions enabled us to check that they are giving appropriate reasons and citing the right laws, carrying out the searches correctly, and informing people of their rights."
Gerald Downs, who runs the public service course at Worcester Sixth-Form, said involving local people was a good idea.
He said: "Many students on the course are interested in becoming police officers so taking part in the sessions will give them a taste of what is really involved."
