CHRISTMAS FUN: Worcester's Victorian Christmas Fayre is this weekend
PEOPLE from across the country will visit Worcester this weekend for the city’s famous Victorian Fayre, which begins tomorrow at 4pm.
Despite the recent flooding, plans for this year’s Christmas fayre – celebrating its 20th anniversary – have not been affected and all of the main access roads to the city centre remain open.
Hundreds of stalls will fill the historic streets of the city centre, with many stallholders expected to dress in traditional dress as 19th century ladies, gents, urchins and chimney sweeps.
Each of the stalls will fill Worcester with the colours, sounds and smells of Christmas, selling a range of items including food, drink, festive gifts, decorations and much more.
As well as the stalls, shops in the city centre will also be open for trade.
The fayre runs until Sunday, December 2.

The trouble is, much like Birmingham's Christmas market, the one here in Worcester is the same every year. The same stalls selling the same things, the same visitors from Kleve, the same welcome, the same speeches, the same carousel in the Cornmarket, the same women selling the same mulled wine outside the Guildhall... Once you've been a couple of times you don't want to go again.

It needs to have a much larger area to spill out into so you've actually got a chance to see what's on the stalls rather than just being pushed along by the crowd.

You've only got to look at the picture at the top to see the biggest problem with the fayre. There are just too many people crammed into too small a space. It needs to have a much larger area to spill out into so you've actually got a chance to see what's on the stalls rather than just being pushed along by the crowd.

1. A dance troop doing Gangham Style. Not very festive.
2. Over crowded funfair. Not very festive.
3. Gangs of lads openly smoking cannabis in the street. Not Very Festive. Where the hell are the police. I don't want my kids exposed to this.
4. German Gluweine. Is this traditionally victorian ?
5. More hot pork sandwich and sausage sellers than I could count.. Not very festive !
I think this events needs a complete overhaul from the ground up. Be a traditional fair OR be a German Market. You simply can't aimlessly amble between the two. Shan't be in a hurry to go back thats for sure.
