KEITH the Severn seal has reappeared in Worcester days after she seemed to be making her way home.

The seal, who experts believe could be a pregnant female, was spotted in the Diglis area of the city last week.

She was previously seen in Upton-upon-Severn on November 23 and appeared to be heading back to the sea.

Sightings went cold as the area was hit by floods and it was believed that Keith had gone for good until she was seen again.

Mary Rawlings, whose husband Richard manages the Ketch Caravan Park – where the seal was spotted reclining on the riverbank – said people continue to look out for her.

“The last I heard was she was in Diglis about a week ago. We’ve not seen her here for a while, but we’re still keeping an eye out.”

Keith has caused a stir with wildlife fans since she was first seen in the Severn, near Powick, in mid-November by members of Wychavon Kayak and Canoe Club.

She has since travelled upriver to Diglis, where she was spotted chomping on salmon, before making her way back downstream.

Despite being named after a Royalist commander in the English Civil War, it is believed Keith is actually a female.

Experts say she may have taken a wrong turn while trying to find a mate or is about to give birth, and could have travelled from north Wales, where seals breed.
