A TEENAGE driver who got behind the wheel of car without a full licence or displaying L plates blamed ‘peer pressure’.
Danica Stephens, aged 19, of Cotswold Road, Malvern, drove a Vauxhall Astra on the town’s Poundbank Road but only had a provisional licence which meant she was also uninsured.
Stephens admitted driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence and using a vehicle without third party insurance during the incident on June 8 when she appeared before district judge Nigel Cadbury at Worcester Magistrates Court.
Kerry Lovegrove, prosecuting, said Stephens was pulled over as a result of a spot check by police.
Miss Lovegrove said: “She stated she had a provisional licence and there was no late L plates on the car at the time. She was asked whether she had insurance and she said no.”
District judge Nigel Cadbury, who had a letter from her, said: “You have said you’re very sorry for what you have done and you bowed to peer pressure.”
For having no insurance Stephens who works in Morrisons in Malvern was fined £150 and ordered to pay £60 costs and a £15 victim surcharge. Six penalty points will be added to her licence.
No separate penalty was imposed for driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence.
