BUILDERS working on the multi-million redevelopment at the home of Worcestershire County Cricket Club have got a bird’s eye view of the city from a giant crane.

The imposing structure went up yesterday as piling work gets under way for the foundations of the four-storey, 120 bedroom Premier Inn hotel next to the County Ground in New Road.

Whitbread, Premier Inn’s parent company, is investing £7.5 million in the hotel and restaurant, while the club is investing £3 million in new facilities including an entrance with raised walkway, conference facilities, executive suites, bar, seating, reception area, offices and meeting rooms.

The county’s headquarters will be able to host first-class cricket by May, with the club’s facilities expected to be fully finished in July despite the recent flooding.

The hotel is planned for completion in November.
