Vomiting bug visiting ban
VISITORS have been banned from a Worcester hospital following an outbreak of the winter diarrhoea and vomiting bug.
Eight wards are affected by norovirus at Worcestershire Royal Hospital. All wards are closed to visitors except for the outpatients department, intensive care, paediatrics and maternity units. This is a precautionary measure, to protect patients and visitors.
Exceptional visiting can be arranged by prior agreement with the ward manager and the ward should be contacted for more information.
Visiting restrictions are in place at the Alexandra Hospital and the Kidderminster Hospital and Treatment Centre.
Essential visiting will be restricted to immediate family and only two visitors at a time. Norovirus is easily spread by contact with an infected person, especially through their hands. You can also catch it through contaminated food or drink or by touching contaminated surfaces or objects.
The following measures should help prevent the virus from spreading further:
•Wash your hands frequently.
•Do not share towels and flannels.
•Disinfect any surfaces that an infected person has touched.
