Upton town improvements to begin next Monday
WORK to make Upton's town centre safer and more accessible is set to begin next week.
Contractor Ringway Ltd, working for Worcestershire County Council, will start the improvements on Monday, January 21.
The scheme includes new road surfaces, pavements and crossing points in High Street, Lower High Street and Old Street.
Other work includes moving a bus stop from Old Street to High Street, creating new parking bays in High Street and New Street, and installing new finger-post signs.
Construction work is expected to last ten weeks and finish in time for Easter. Access to businesses and frontages will be maintained at all times.
Old Street will be closed on January 28-February 1, Court Street on February 11-15 and High Street on March 17, 24 and 31.
A drop-in shop will open from Monday at 34 Old Street, where residents, businesses and visitors can receive updates, look over the plans and ask questions.
Coun Simon Geraghty of the county council said: "This is a very exciting project and I'm sure residents will be looking forward to seeing the finished results.
"Whilst delays are likely when works are taking place, I'm sure the end result will be well worth it. We'd like to thank road users and local people in advance for their patience and understanding whilst the enhancements are happening."

Shame his department totally ignored the views of the residents and instead are going ahead with his "big idea" scheme unmodified so Upton looses parking spaces and is lumbered with block paving, high kerbs and lots of useless roadsigns.
