Man seriously injured after being hit by car in 'road rage' incident

A MAN was seriously injured when a car was driven at him following a parking dispute in Worcester on Saturday. 

At around 6.30pm, a man in his 20s and his partner drove along the Tything from Worcester city centre and turned into Hebb Street in order to go to the Golden Gourmet fish and chip shop.

When he attempted to park his car in a space on the roadside, another driver began sounding his horn and pulled over opposite them.

The male driver got out of his car and shouted and swore at them, spat on their windscreen and got back into his car before speeding away, turning down Britannia Square.

The couple got out of their car and were walking towards the chip shop, when they realised the same man who had just been abusing them had returned and was driving his car at speed towards them.

The car mounted the kerb driving straight at the other man, who jumped out of the way but was still hit by the vehicle, which ran over his foot.

The car again drove off at speed and turned down Britannia Square once more. The driver is described as white, of average height and build, with short greying hair that is balding on top. He was wearing jeans and possibly a khaki or dark-coloured top.

The car he was driving was a silver estate car, believed to be an Audi, with roof bar runners along the edges of the roof.

PC Dave Kettle, who is investigating the incident, said: "The victim and his fiancée were both left shaken and scared by the incident and he has a serious foot injury.

"I believe that if he had not jumped out of the way of the vehicle he would have almost certainly gone over the bonnet and would probably have been very badly injured or even killed.

"It is extremely fortunate the victim's injuries were not much more severe and we are treating this seriously; the incident has been recorded as an incident of GBH.

"There is no place for such aggression or dangerous driving on our roads and for anyone to behave in this manner is completely unacceptable. I am dismayed it occurred over such a minor incident.

"I believe the attacker must have driven along Britannia Square, turned back along The Tything and back into Hebb Street, so if anyone saw it, please contact us.

"I also want to give the driver involved the opportunity to come forward and identify himself so he can assist with the investigation and give his view of what happened in Hebb Street."
