Join Old Meg Morris

THIS year marks the 35th anniversary of Malvern-based Old Meg Morris, and the side is looking for new members.

The team was founded in 1977 as an all-female side, but for the last 13 years has included male dancers.

Its dances are based on the traditions of mill workers in north-west England, who danced in clogs on cobbled streets, making a loud rhythmic sound as they stamped out the dance steps.

The dances include the use of sticks, garlands, slings and bells to add to the spectacle.

Old Meg perform regularly at fetes, festivals and fairs, both local and national, the most recent being the Worcester Christmas Fair.

Dancers range from aged 15 upwards and practices are on Tuesday evenings from 8pm at Poolbrook Hall on Poolbrook Road, Malvern, next to the Three Horseshoes pub.
