THE Blockbuster store in Warndon will close, administrators have announced today.

Deloitte, the administrators to Blockbuster, have confirmed 129 more stores will close over the coming weeks as part of a phased closure, adding to the 31 already named.

One of the two Worcester stores at Ambleside Drive in Warndon is set to close, while the shop at Shrub Hill Retail Park is safe for now but more closures are expected in coming weeks.

Staff members of Blockbuster in Warndon will now be facing redundancy and a dedicated helpline for employees across the 160 stores is running to help them find other jobs.

The closures will not take effect immediately and during the period before the shops shut the doors for good there will be promotions in the store.

Lee Manning, Joint Administrator, added: “Having reviewed the portfolio with management, the store closure plan is an inevitable consequence of having to restructure the company to a profitable core which is capable of being sold.

"We would like to thank the company’s employees for their support and professionalism during this difficult time. We are also grateful to the customers for their continued support.”
