BREAKFAST is the most important meal of the day, according to many, and Ledbury Food Group is getting ready to prove it with the Big Ledbury Breakfast this weekend.

On Friday and Saturday, cafes, pubs, shops and market traders are joining forces to offer hungry residents and visitors all sorts of hearty breakfasts featuring the best of local ingredients.

Whether your idea of a proper breakfast is the full English or coffee and croissants, or anything in between, there will be plenty to tempt you.

Ledbury’s cafes are offering a mouth-watering selection to suit every palate, from eggs benedict or eggs florentine at Sez in the High Street to a continental-style buffet at Muse Café in the Homend, where choices will include muesli, savoury croissants, savoury and sweet muffins and more.

The Talbot in New Street is hosting a special brunch, recalling the days of railway dining and featuring anecdotes from railway historian Gareth Calan Davies.

The three butchers in the High Street and Homend, Gurneys, Llandinabo Farm Shop and Wallers, are all offering local bacon and sausages, and just down the road at Four Oaks Delicatessen, there will be muesli and local fruit purée pots, and individual breakfast frittatas.

And stallholders at the farmers market on Friday and the street market on Saturday are also taking part.

Fran Robinson of Ledbury Food Group said: "15 local businesses are offering a fantastic range of locally produced food, so whether you fancy the monster breakfast at Nice Things or the smoked salmon and scrambled eggs at Blue Fuschia there will be a breakfast for you in Ledbury this weekend."
