City's fourth Costa will open in St Martin's Quarter this month

Costa to open its doors once again in Worcester Costa to open its doors once again in Worcester

COSTA coffee is currently fitting out a new purpose built store in St Martin's Quarter with plans to open during February.

The new store, which will be Worcester's fourth Costa, is in the main thoroughfare between the town centre and the heart of St Martin’s Quarter and will be a welcome stop off point for shoppers and travellers going to and from the city centre.

Colin Greensmith, Regional Development Manager for Costa, said: “Our coffee and service is already popular in Worcester and we are pleased to be part of the £75m St Martin’s Quarter development that has created an exciting new retail and leisure destination steeped in the City’s industrial history.”

Selwyn Rowley of Carillion Richardson said: “It is great news that the UK’s most popular coffee chain will be part of the St Martin’s Quarter offer and is joining other thriving retail brands in this choice of location.

“As the UKs favourite coffee shop with stores in 25 other countries internationally Costa is becoming a global success story and has an offer that will be popular with locals and the many national and international travellers who visit the city each year."

If you count the Costa's in supermarkets and petrol stations the number far exceeds 4!! Somebody is doing well out of Costa in Worcester and I'm not sure it's the public. We must be one of the few Cities in England not to have a Starbucks! Costa are taking over the world....you have been warned!

Another Costa? Do we really need a 4th? Shame it couldn't have been an independent retailer/coffee house/tea rooms; suport local in my opinion. But, saying that, with this double dip recession I understand that independent retailers can't always survive/flourish. If I do buy 'corporate' then I would favour a Starbucks instead. I do enjoy the coffee bar culture, and do wish we could go back to a time where coffee bars were also open on an evening, like in the 1950s and 1960s, which were frequented by teenagers and young adults. Anyone remember any of the coffee bars? The Rio, The L'Aroma, The Jubilee, The Hop Pole, The Miramar, and what was the one of the corner of New St/Friar St called? My Mom and other members of my family speak so fondly of this day in age, where you could put your favourite Buddy Holly tune on the juke box, sip at coffee while soberly enjoying your friends company.

Ah ha! In relation to my previous post (2nd and 3rd one down apologies for the repetition). The other Coffee Bar, on New St, was The Flamingo. Apparently the Miramar cooked their own burgers too, and you could go upstairs and watch Tom and Jerry on the telly. What a lovely sounding time.

I can think of at least 6 Costas - Asda, Tesco, Hospital, there are some in schools, and a few in town, they must be up to double figures now.
.
BTW I don't like coffee.
.
I like St Peters garden centre cafe.

I don't like big chains or monopolies so variety would have been better than yet another Costa... they must be laughing all the way to the bank... 2 coffees and 2 of the cheapest biscuits about 7 quid! ...What???

Good, it will give Asda's cafe a run for it's money.

Ahhh...The Miramar. Did the best burgers in the world. I miss the 1960s.
.
On a separate point, getting coffee at Costa/Starbucks etc is not compulsory. I do a very good Nescafe (other coffees are available) in my own kitchen...

Does anyone know where the Restaurant Review page has gone on this website? It seemed to disappear a couple of weeks ago. Or is it just me?

I guess the person who did the reviews got sacked for giving 3/5 for every section of every restaurant! Did take all my staff to The Olive Branch on Saturday from a WN review (3/5!) and it was fantastic. I recommend the lamb.

Costa Coffee is the new Tesco Express - cropping up everywhere. Not to mention the Costa Express machines in a lot of petrol stations.

A lot of pubs and restaurants are selling Costa coffe now and have a sign up saying "proud to serve Costa". If a pub or restaurant can't make a decent coffee without it being branded then there's a problem really!

The restaurant reviews are still in the newspaper (today it`s Frankie & Benny`s in Kidderminster - mostly 3/5 again). But yes, they`ve gone missing from the on-line edition for some reason.
Since there was massive on-line criticism about a review of The Bell in Eckington (I think) a different person does a review each week.
Personally, I like Costas best, closely followed by M&S - Starbucks is great in the USA but horrible over here.

I'd have thought Costa were doing well enough financially to do their own advertising about a new coffee shop opening!!

Interesting how some of the first comments are suggesting a Starbucks would be better than another Costa, whilst also complaining the public is not doing well out of Costa. Starbucks is not proving popular at all right now due to their mass UK tax evasion, in the mean time popularity for Costa has soared due to being a British coffee company who pays all their required tax in the UK.

In my opinion, the best coffees in town are to be had at The Little Ginger Pig, Copenhagen Street and Deli, next door to Music 47.
I find Costa coffee bland and boring and can't believe they are opening yet another one. Worcester always seems to be dominated by the same chains. It wasn't long ago that the only home store we had for years were 3 Homebases. Come on Worcester, variety is the spice of life.

Costa is boring, id rather go to Boleros where the service and coffee is so much better than Costa and Starbucks put together.

I find chain-branded coffee in the UK to be generally expensive, insipid and often bitter in taste. The Jamaican Blue Mountain ground coffee stocked by Waitrose is excellent and is retailed at half the price charged at the specialist coffee shop within the Crowngate arcade.

Personally I don't care what coffee a pub serves, it is unimportant, what their proper drinks is important

Very good point.

I've nothing against Costa's, but as others are saying, it's just too much.
Surely the Council has powers to stop organisations getting too dominant in the area.

We have a good few independents, but still way too many Costa's. And how about other chains? Starbucks and Pret, for example.

Hang on....I seem to recall when the 'Quarter' was announced, there was going to be space for 'international cuisine' etc.

I thought at the time that would probably mean another Pizza Express/Hut and a chain caff.
