A GROUP of volunteers responsible for Droitwich Spa’s waterways is in the running for a top award.

THE Droitwich Waterways (Pamela May) Trust has applied for one of the Canal and River Trust's Waterways Renaissance Awards.

These are given out to projects which help to bring the waterways and canals of the country into wider public use and enjoyment.

Since the town’s canals were re-opened in July 2011, the Droitwich Waterways (Pamela May) Trust has created an organisation and trained around 18 skilled skippers and crew members to provide cruises on the canals for the people of Droitwich Spa.

An assessor from the Canal and River Trust will now visit the town to meet the volunteers and inspect their work.
