"Oh Snow! Not again!" County gritters on standby
GRITTERS are on standby as more snow is predicted for Worcestershire.
MET Office forecasts indicate more snow due to hit Worcestershire this weekend. This afternoon and through the evening conditions are set to remain cloudy, with patchy rain overnight. The rain is set to become heavier and more persistent during tomorrow with some sleet possible over hills. Overnight tomorrow and into Sunday there is a likelihood of snow with possible significant accumulations and road surface temperatures falling below freezing.
With this in mind, roads are being monitored and Worcestershire County Council gritters will be heading out from 7pm this evening to treat pre-identified sections of highway and ensure known wet spots are treated/ signed. Gritting teams are on standby over the weekend ready to go out and attend to roads as required.
Drivers are once again urged to drive with caution, ensuring they temper their driving according to the conditions, and ensure they maintain a safe distance between themselves and other vehicles to allow for additional braking distance when roads are wet or icy.
Worcestershire County Council's Highways Manager, Jon Fraser, said: "With the latest MET Office forecasts indicating the likelihood of more snow over the weekend, our gritting teams are well prepared and ready to go out to support residents and businesses on the county's roads again. Once again it's important to remember that grit, whilst it helps to keep vehicles moving, is never a miracle solution and it's essential to take care when out on the roads in the snow or ice."
Residents can keep up-to-date with #grittertwitter by following the County Council's Twitter account @worcscc (twitter.com/worcscc).
Latest information on any disruption to public transport and services will be available on the county council's website worcestershire.gov.uk. Residents can also phone the Worcestershire Hub for information on 01905 765765 (Hub opening hours are Mon-Fri 8am-8pm, Sat 9am-5pm).
Gritting teams are also out and about ensuring grit bins across the county are refilled as fast as they can. To help residents pinpoint their nearest grit bin an interactive map is available at worcestershire.gov.uk/gritting, which allows users to search by postcode.
