A FAMILY hauliers firm has been given the go-ahead to expand its fleet of vehicles at a public enquiry.

Offenham residents had raised concerns about the extra six HGVs and 10 trailers being used by J & J Bannister (Evesham) Ltd in Newtown, Offenham, but the Deputy Traffic Commissioner granted permission.

The inquiry was held in Evesham on January 28 and heard about the company’s intended use of more vehicles and from residents concerned about the impact on the environment and noise levels.

After considering all the evidence, the commissioner approved the application with certain restrictions on operation times and times vehicles could be washed.

Tom Owens, general manager at the firm, which employees more than 50 people, said: “We are pleased it was given permission and safeguards local jobs.

“Market growing is massive industry in Evesham, and we support that. If Evesham haulage firms are not allowed to grow, external hauliers would come in. We aim to minimise disruption to local people and our door is always open.”
