AN ambitious Bromsgrove school pupil, who lives in Redditch, is aiming to reach the top in two careers.

Singer Fran Kingston has been given the chance of a lifetime, to tour with Britain’s Got Talent star saxophonist Julian Smith.

When Julian, a runner-up behind Susan Boyle in the 2009 series, announced he was looking for up-and-coming talent to tour theatres with him, Fran’s mum, Louise, sent him a demo of her 17-year-old daughter.

After hearing the demo Julian was so impressed that within 24 hours he had contacted Fran, and invited her to perform with him.

Fran appeared in a leading role in Bromsgrove School's production of Catz at the Artrix Theatre last December and, in 2011, received a trophy from the Birmingham Festival of Acting and Musical Entertainment for her individual singing of On My Own, from Les Miserables.

Fran and Julian’s first performance, along with world percussionist Joelle Barker, classical soprano Amelia Whiteman, DJ Nash Richardz, and harpist Laura Rose Gee, is being held this Saturday, (February 23), at the Norbury Theatre.

Julian said: “Fran's voice has real quality.

“It was a joy to listen to her songs which range from jazz to country, western and songs from the shows.

“I was very impressed.”

As well as singing, Fran also has ambitions of becoming a fully qualified vet - recently having an interview at the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons in London.

Any spare time she finds has been put to good use, helping out at the Farm Animal and Bird Sanctuary in Tardebigge.

Louise said: "Her great ambition is to become a vet.

“Fran is hoping that her singing performances will help fund her studies, and she might even become known as The Singing Vet.”
