The gritting fleet will be heading out this evening as frost is predicted to form on roads overnight.

After a dry day with sunny spells today, cloud is predicted to increase during the evening and throughout the night, with mist and fog forecast after midnight.

In between mist, fog and cloud there is a possibility of clearer spells resulting in road surfaces temperatures falling to a minimum of -1C with a patchy frost forming.

With this in mind, Worcestershire County Council's gritters will be going out from 7.30pm to treat primary routes as a precaution, with an inspection to follow from 5am tomorrow morning.

The weather is predicted to be remain mostly dry over the weekend, with possibility of road surface temperatures falling near to freezing.

The county council's highways manager, Jon Fraser, said: "It may seem very odd to read that roads are still being treated now the weather is so improved, but it's important to be aware that, as was the case this morning, we can still wake up to icy conditions in the mornings as temperatures drop overnight.

"Our concern is always to provide the best possible support for residents and businesses and it's really positive to see so many drivers on the roads heeding our advice to maximise safety by driving carefully."
