Wychbold pub to hold event in memory of Charlie Harris-Beard

A FUNDRAISING day is being held in memory of a toddler who lost his brave battle against leukaemia.

The Crown, Wychbold, is hosting a day of activities after two-year-old Charlie Harris-Beard of Kidderminster died on Friday, February 8 following a courageous battle with the illness.

Events will run at the pub from 12noon on Saturday to raise money for Cords4Life, a charity set up by his dad Joe and mum Fiona, who is from Droitwich Spa, to increase awareness of how umbilical cord donations can save lives.

A bouncy castle, face painting, magic show, an appearance from Pippa and Buddy the dog from Britain’s Got Talent and Peppa Pig are all set to delight visitors.

A host of stalls, a tombola and live music will add to the atmosphere at the Worcester Road venue, which is also offering a free kids meal with every adult meal purchased on the day.

In April 2011, Charlie, aged just 10 months, was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukaemia and within just four months he had been through four intensive cycles of chemotherapy. He had a bone marrow transplant in October 2011.

The family has urged people to sign an e-petition to increase awareness and availability of umbilical cord donations which has already received more than 10,000 signatures.
