VALE residents are being urged to donate their old and unwanted spectacles to raise cash for charity.

Specsavers, in Bridge Street, is joining forces with Evesham Rotary Club to collect old frames for the Vision Aid Overseas.

They will be at the Riverside Shopping Centre tomorrow from 10am to 4pm with a collection box.

The glasses are recycled by the charity and the money raised is used to fund the charity’s work overseas which includes giving people badly-needed eye tests and treatment and training for local optometrists.

Barry Baldelli, Rotary Club Member, said: "This is a wonderful opportunity to be a part of something which is as simple as giving away you’re old and unused glasses but actually has every chance of changing someone’s life for the better.

‘We hope that by joining forces with a local business we not only gain support from the local residents but also the wider community."

Specsavers stores have collectively raised more than £225,000 towards this project so far and hope to double that amount this year to fund ongoing running costs of the facilities.
