Hanbury Hall to show hidden areas

HANBURY Hall is set to unveil an area of the house not normally open to the public.

The National Trust property near Droitwich Spa will welcome visitors this March for a special event showcasing the hall’s hidden artefacts.

The event runs from Mon, March 11 – Thursday, March 15, from 1pm - 4.30pm, and will give people the opportunity to see the servants’ stairs, dressed servants bedroom and take a peek in the attic too.

This year the staff will also be giving visitors the chance to see items of the Vernon family collection that aren’t usually on show. Each month a different piece of the collection will be brought out and displayed for visitors. Starting in March with Lady Georgina’s beekeeping medal, awarded to her in 1894.

Visitors can also try something new, and delight their taste buds, with the Hanbury Hall ‘Cake of the Month’ in the servants’ hall tea-room. During March carrot cake will be available for visitors to try everyday as well as taking the recipe home to have a go at making it themselves.

Visitor services manager Alice Eddy said: “We love sharing Hanbury Hall with our visitors and it’s great to be able to get these wonderful pieces out of store and open up extra bits of the house so that visitors can learn even more about the fascinating history of the hall and the Vernon family.”
