AS families prepare to thank mums everywhere - we take a look at some of the tributes paid across Worcestershire, how you can mark the day together - and even offer a bit of help to those seeking last-minute gift inspiration...

MUM was not the word - but the picture - for pupils at a Worcester school as they paid tribute to their parents for Mother’s Day.

The reception class at Broadwas CE Primary School painted portraits of their mums ahead of a special service at the school to mark the day.

As well as putting the tributary portraits to paper, the youngsters baked a special simnel cake in honour of their mothers.

The service is held annually with pupils and parents turning out to mark the day.

THERE’s still time to show Mum just how special she is with this great selection of gifts.

MUMS and daughters are being encouraged to team up on Mother’s Day and enter this year’s Race for Life.

Sue Bishop, who was diagnosed with cancer just months after losing her father, Denis, to the disease has signed up for her third Race for Life in Worcester on Sunday, June 16, with her niece, Jodie Fox.

Ms Bishop, aged 44, from Kidderminster, lost her father to cancer in August 2009 and was diagnosed with breast cancer that November.

She is now in remission and said: “I was still in shock from Dad’s death when I found the lump in my breast. I didn’t do anything about it at first but I mentioned it to the girls at work and they persuaded me to go to the doctor’s. I really believe they saved my life.”

This year, Race for Life organisers need 4000 women and girls in Worcester to take part and help raise £209,000 for vital research.

To enter visit raceforlife.org or call 0845 600 6050.
