BUSINESS talent in Droitwich Spa is set to be put in the spotlight thanks to a new project.
The Spa Enterprise Business Awards (SEBA) 2013, a competition to reward entrepreneurial skills, will soon be launched.
SEBA has designed the competition to offer an fresh blend of networking opportunities for the established business community and to celebrate and reward emerging business talent in the town and surrounding areas.
The three competition categories will focus on innovation, entrepreneurship and new business start-ups. A winner and runner-up will be appointed for each category. The combined value of all the prizes on offer to the competition winners is nearly £8,000 including cash prizes, trophies and prizes pledged by established businesses. Nearly 30 businesses have pledged prizes.
The scheme has been backed by Peter Luff, MP for Mid Worcestershire, and Neil Westwood, whose company Magic Whiteboard won investment from the BBC’s Dragons’ Den.
The competition was inspired by the experience of its project director, Jacqui Morley, who set up her own business as an events manager following redundancy in 2012.
Commenting on the project, Mr Luff said: “Things aren’t easy for a lot of businesses right now, but even in tough times, good things can happen. I’ve seen many local companies who are prospering despite the challenges and we can learn from them and share their important lessons. That’s why I welcome the Spa Enterprise Business Awards so warmly. There’s a lot of business talent in Worcestershire and I hope these awards encourage even more entrepreneurs to start-up businesses and create local jobs.”
The official opening of the competition will take place with a free launch event on Friday, April 19 at St Andrews Town Hotel from 11am to 1pm.
Entries to the competition can be made by downloading the application form from the competition’s website at sebastars.co.uk. The deadline for entries is midnight on September 15.
