A BUSY Worcester road will close for a total of nearly two weeks over the Easter holidays.

Signs were spotted in Henwick Road, St John’s, yesterday giving advanced warning of works throughout April.

It is understood contractors working for Severn Trent Water will be carrying out patching repairs on sewer mains in the street from Tuesday for four days.

The closure will affect a 100m stretch of Henwick Road heading north from Ingles Drive opposite St Clement’s Church.

A further week-long closure will start from Monday, April 15, however, the reasons for this closure are not yet clear.

News of the repairs comes just days after Severn Trent ended a five-week partial closure of one of Worcester’s main commuter routes.

Ombersley Road was shut off to incoming traffic at Checketts Lane from Sunday, February 17, while the water board upgraded sewers in Barbourne Road and Sunnyside Road.

News of the closure sparked outrage among residents, business owners and motorists who feared that congestion caused by the roadworks would lead to chaos and a loss of trade. The diversions were lifted last Friday.
