Police say that there are no connections between the people who have been arrested and the injured men and it is believed to be random, unprovoked attacks on local people.
Superintendent Ivan Powell: "We would like to reassure the public that these incidents were contained swiftly and there is no longer a threat to the public in the area.
"We will however continue to have a police presence in order to provide support to the community.
"Following confirmation earlier today that we are liaising with colleagues at Cambridgeshire Constabulary over their murder inquiry following the death of a man in Peterborough, I can now say that two of the people we arrested yesterday were wanted in connection with the Cambridgeshire investigation."
Superintendent Ivan Powell: "We hope it illustrates the speed at which these incidents took place and the fast moving, proactive nature of yesterday's police operation, which resulted in the quick arrest of five suspects - two within half an hour of the first incident being reported to us and the remaining three under two hours later."
All arrests took place within two hours of the first stabbing being reported to police.
The first arrests happened within half an hour of the first stabbing taking place.
Five people - four men and a woman - remain in police custody after being arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.
Superintentent Ivan Powell: "We have released this information in the hope at it may jog people's memories and that anyone in those areas of the city and Almeley, may have seen something which could help us with our investigation."
At 4.50pm two men were in a white Renault Kangoo were arrested in Almeley and at 5.45pm another man was arrested in a nearby field following an area search by officers.
At around 4.10pm yesterday a woman and a man were arrested in The Oval and a green Vauxhall Astra was seized by police.
The man stabbed near Golden Post is in a critical but stable condition in hospital.
Police believe two people arrested - a woman in her 30s and a man in his 40s - are being linked to a murder near Peterborough.
At around 3.50pm a man in his 50s was stabbed on a footpath off Golden Post.
At around 3.40pm a man in his 60s was stabbed in Westfaling Street. He is in a critical but stable condition in hospital.

Superintendent Ivan Powell, police commander for Herefordshire, said in a statement released earlier today: “We are continuing to investigate what took place in several different locations yesterday afternoon.
"Forensic searches and house to house inquiries are ongoing. We have also seized two vehicles as part of our investigation.
“We would like to reassure the public that these incidents were contained swiftly and we will continue to have a police presence in the area to provide support.
"Those people arrested are not believed to be known to the injured men and this is believed to be random, unprovoked attacks on local people.”

A PRESS conference has been called by West Mercia Police following the random stabbings in Hereford yesterday.
Five people are in custody and one man is in a critical condition after being stabbed on a footpath that runs off Golden Post, Hunderton, late yesterday afternoon.
Another man was seriously injured in Westfaling Street near the turn into Holmer Street at 3.30pm.
Both victims are at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham.
The conference will take place at 2pm today.
