A SPORTS enthusiast who lost his father to leukaemia had a great result when he asked two top Premiership stars to help him raise money in his memory for a Worcester charity.

Adam Streeter was on a sports science internship at Tottenham Hotspur when he asked two of the team’s leading players to give him their boots for an auction to help him raise cash for Leukaemia Care, a national charity based in Blackpole. The 23-year-old, of Solihull, approached Gareth Bale in the treatment room and asked if he could have a signed pair of his boots. The Spurs ace agreed and it was not long before he had a second pair, donated by Spurs captain Michael Dawson. The club also threw in a signed match ball for the auction. Mr Streeter hopes to auction the boots and ball in London to boost the funds he and brother Luke, 24, raise by running this year’s London Marathon, which they aim to complete in honour and memory of their father David, who died five months ago.

Mr Streeter admitted he was “not too sure” about asking for the footballer’s help but said both were supportive. He said: “Michael Dawson is such a nice guy. When I walked through the gym he always said: ‘Hi’.

“I said: ‘Could you give me a pair of your boots? I’m running the marathon for my dad?’ and he said yes.

“I would like to say a great thanks to Tottenham Football Club for providing me with so many items to generate more funds. I really hope whoever buys them enjoys them and knows how much it has helped.”

The Worcester-based charity has 140 runners in the marathon, each raising at least £2,000 for Leukaemia Care.
