STAFF at Worcester’s HMV store were delighted to learn that the chain has been bought out of administration and have thanked customers for their loyalty.

The store in CrownGate Shopping Centre is one of 141 stores in the UK that has been saved from closure after restructuring specialist Hilco purchased the company’s debt, taking control of the business.

Although the store was not among the 25 stores previously earmarked for closure following the announcement that HMV had gone into administration, the latest news means that its future on the high street should now be far more secure.

Hilco has stated that it plans to move the business away from selling tablets and bring HMV back to focusing on its core entertainment and music products.

Lindsay Smith, manager of the Worcester store, which employs 20 staff members, said her colleagues felt reassured and relieved by the announcement of Hilco’s takeover.

She said: “We are delighted about the news and are excited about returning to HMV’s traditional retail model, which we think will re-invigorate trade.

“We are extremely grateful for the on-going support of all our loyal customers and look forward to welcoming new ones into the store.”

Erica Burlace, CrownGate centre manager, said: “The announcement is fantastic news for all the hard-working HMV staff, for whom the last few weeks have been a very anxious time.

“It is also great news for the high street and Worcester city centre itself. HMV is a stalwart retailer; one that evokes good memories for many Worcester shoppers. We very much look forward to embracing the changes in customer experiences and choices it proposes.”
