NETWORK Rail and a signalman will discover their sentences today in light of a level crossing death in Herefordshire in 2010.

In February a jury at Birmingham Crown Court found signalman Adrian Maund and Network Rail guilty of charges against them in relation to the death of Jane Harding, who was in a car, on the line at Moreton-on-Lugg.

Maund, from Caswell Crescent in Leominster, had denied failing to take reasonable care for the health and safety of railway and railway crossing users by raising the level crossing barriers when it was unsafe to do so.

Network Rail also pleaded not guilty to a separate charge of failing in its duty of care for the health and safety of railway and railway crossing users by not installing an approach locking system.
