THERE was no clowning around when the circus came to town to raise £1,500 for a primary school and church.

A total of 580 people attended the circus event at St Joseph’s RC Primary School in Warndon, Worcester.

The event was organised by the Friends of St Joseph’s and saw a huge big top tent put up on the school field, courtesy of Happy’s Circus.

Families and friends, along with the Mayor and Mayoress of Worcester, Councillor Roger Berry and his wife Jill, enjoyed performances from some “very, very funny” clowns, a lady who balanced knives and swords, a trapeze artist, and a man who stood and balanced on top of a number of barrels.

Jo Collingwood, a member of the Friends of St Joseph’s who organised the event on on Friday, April 19, said: “It was absolutely brilliant, we’ve had nothing but positive feedback.”

As well as the circus, there were also a number of stalls everything from BBQs to face painting to cakes supplied by Rachel’s cakes.

There was also a raffle, with prizes donated by Malvern Spa, Cheeky Monkey’s Soft Play.

The money raised will be split between the school and St Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church in Chedworth Drive, Warndon.
