A MAN has been jailed after carrying out a Samurai sword attack on another man.
Luke Downes, of Arthur Street, Redditch, admitted damaging a vehicle and injuring the male driver with a Samurai sword in the same road at about 12.45pm on Saturday, March 16 when he appeared at Worcester Crown Court on Monday.
The 24-year-old was sentenced to 22 months for threatening a person with an offensive weapon in a public place.
Downes was arrested nearby the scene of the incident after armed officers were called in.
PC Darren Shiels said: “This was a nasty attack and quite frightening for anyone in the area at the time. The safety of the public is a priority for us and any reports of people carrying offensive weapons are taken very seriously.
“This sentence shows that anyone caught carrying a dangerous weapon will be dealt with by the courts and could face a considerable custodial sentence.”
Downes was also ordered to pay £100 costs and no further action was taken with the other two charges of criminal damage and assault he had previously pleaded guilty to.
