A POLICE officer had a lucky escape after he was pinned up against a police van by another car.

Officers were responding to reports of two men acting suspiciously in an alleyway in Stoney Lane, near the Tesco Express in Stourbridge Road, Kidderminster, when the incident happened at about 9.30am yesterday (11).

An Audi was reversed into a police van, pinning one officer between the two vehicles and leaving him with a chipped knee bone, as well as cuts to his arms.

The driver of the van also suffered cuts and bruises, and both were taken to hospital.

Their injuries were not life-threatening and they were discharged later that day following x-rays and treatment.

Staff at Holy Trinity International School were told to lock doors while police searched for the assailants using dogs and a helicopter.

Three Wolverhampton men in their 20s were arrested near the scene soon after on suspicion of attempted murder and conspiracy to commit robbery.

Two are in custody at Kidderminster police station and the third, who is suspected of being the driver of the Audi, is being treated in hospital for a head injury and chest pain.

No-one else is being sought in connection with the incident at this time.

Superintendent Kevin Purcell, of West Mercia Police, said: “The officers were extremely lucky not to have been more seriously injured.

“This incident demonstrates the unpredictable nature of the job, and the risks they face on a daily basis.

“A large number of people saw police activity in Kidderminster, and we hope the fact that three suspects were quickly arrested will reassure them. We are very grateful to those who assisted police by providing information.”

Witnesses or anyone with information should call Kidderminster CID on 101, quoting incident 117-s-110613, or ring Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
