A FORMER Worcester Sixth Form College student is helping victims of the recent Sichuan Earthquake in China.

Five years ago WaiLo Li, aged 28, who still lives in Worcester, founded the charity Project TOM, which raises money for disaster victims through impromptu events.

They raised £2,027 at the latest event for people living with the fallout of the earthquake, which struck in April.

Miss Li said: “Project TOM was actually established five years ago this month, when co-ordinating an impromptu fund-raising event for the then deadly Sichuan Earthquake of 2008, where 86,000 lives were lost.

“Overseas Chinese communities around the world really came together and took action. It was inspiring.

“Now, 16 events on, we’ve come full circle. We’re so proud of all our volunteers, past and present, to have raised more than £33,400 for needy projects around the world. It’s been tough at times, especially on top of a full-time job, but the projects have been so rewarding and meaningful. Kindness is a very big thing.”
