A TEENAGER broke the terms of his electronically tagged curfew because he was rescuing a dog, a court was told.

Ryan Price, of Brookthorpe Road, Warndon, Worcester, admitted breaching the terms of his bail when he appeared before magistrates in Worcester.

The court was told that the 18-year-old was not at the address at 10.05pm on June 7, when he should have been in by 9pm. He had to be indoors at the time as part of a series of bail conditions imposed because of a burglary charge, one of which included a 9pm to 6am, electronically-monitored curfew.

The original conditions were imposed by the court on May 28.

Fred Pilkington, prosecuting, said: “When he was arrested only yesterday evening he said he had been saving a dog from a canal with his uncle.

“Bearing in mind he had a reason for being out you may feel he could be granted bail again on the same conditions with a similar warning about any further breaches.”

Paul Stanley, defending, said he had not been back in by his curfew time and told police he had been with his uncle, helping a dog that got caught in some wires by the canal. He said: “The only blot on the landscape was last Thursday evening for that half-hour period.”

There had been no breach since, Mr Stanley told the court. Magistrate Sue Dowty, the chairman of the bench, said the breach had happened very early on in the bail conditions.

She said: “A court order is a court order and you are to be at home when you are supposed to be at home.

“On this occasion we are going to readmit you to bail.

“Be under no illusion – if you breach the conditions again you will be in custody until your court appearance.”

Price is next scheduled to appear at Worcester Crown Court on August 27.

The conditions of his bail are the curfew, not to contact the co-accused in the burglary or the alleged injured party, not to enter Northfield Street, Worcester and to live at the address given to the court.
