A DANCE-loving pensioner celebrated his 100th birthday with no less than four parties.

Twinkle-toed Alan Wintle marked the big 100 by taking to the floor during a dance holiday in Paignton in Devon with his dance partner Cindy Hencher.

Mr Wintle, of Worcester, was joined on the trip by his son Roger and wife Dianne.

It has been a busy time for the centenarian who also enjoyed a meal with 82 friends and family at the Pear Tree Inn, Smite, near Worcester, and parties held at two of the dance clubs he attends each week.

Dance has played a big part in Mr Wintle’s life after he met his late wife Peggy at a dance in Erdington, Birmingham. Mrs Wintle died in 1996.

The couple were married in 1940, when Mr Wintle was 27 and his wife was 22, and later had their children Roger and Janet.

HIs family now includes seven granchildren – Rachel, Jessica, Callum, Alex, Hannah, Sam and Ben.

Born in the Forest of Dean, Mr Wintle moved to Erdington in 1930 and worked at the Castle Bromwich aeroplane factory during the Second World War.

After the factory was bombed in the early 1940s, he chose to move to Worcester as production was dispersed around the country.

After the war he stayed in the area moving to Pershore and Drakes Broughton while building parts for Spitfires in Castle Street, Worcester.

Later, he went to work for the Telecommunications Research Establishment at RAF Defford, near Pershore.

He was awarded the Imperial Service Medal in 1977 when he retired.
