FUND-raising was a snip for one young girl who went for a drastic hair cut in aid of Little Princess Trust.

Ava Stephens had her long locks cut to a short bob so she could donate her hair to the charity which makes wigs for children going through cancer treatment.

Kind-hearted Ava, from Barbourne, Worcester, also managed to raise nearly £500 by setting up a Just Giving page and asking friends and family for donations.

She braved the hairdresser’s chair at Sam Roberts Hair Design on Hylton Road, Worcester, to face the scissors on Wednesday.

The 10-year-old had been growing her hair for three years but was happy with hairdresser Marie Lannie’s new style. The Northwick Manor Primary School pupil said: “I really like it. It is a bit harder to style but it is a lot cooler in this weather. I was so happy to raise so much money because I aimed to raise about £100. Friends and family have been really generous and I’m grateful to them.”

“It was nice to do because I know how I would feel if I didn’t have any hair and I would like someone to donate some hair to me.”

Friends at school have given her hair the thumbs up but Ava plans to carry on letting it grow.

She decided to go for the chop after reading about the charity’s work at a village show. Her hair has now been sent to the charity in Hereford, to form part of one wig.
