PEOPLE in Malvern Link are gearing up for the first-ever Victoria Park Community Day on Sunday.

There will be attractions such as live music, pig roast, barbecue and a bar, bouncy castle, skate demonstrations and much more.

Local businesses and charities will have stalls and there will be face-painting and children’s entertainment.

Music will be provided by a number of local bands, all playing for free, including Black Hill, Samani and Miss Pearl and the Rough Diamonds who were one of the big hits at last week’s popular carnival.

Black Russian and the Undercovers will also be playing.

DJs will be at the skatepark all day, with a live performance from Aristocrats at 6pm.

The skatepark demos will be at 1pm for skateboarders, 2.30pm for rollerblade, 4pm scooter and 5.30pm BMX.

The event has been organised by Malvern Link Community Interest Company, a new social enterprise aimed at supporting local residents, in association with community charity Hope Unlimited and Malvern Cycles CIC, which runs the Link’s cycle shop.

Tanya Trotman, of Malvern Cycles, said: “We hope to attract more than 3,000 people to the event and if it all goes well we want to run one every year.

“We have put a lot of effort into making this an event for everyone who lives and works locally and the benefit to the community will be massive if everyone supports us on Sunday.

“I know that recently we have lost three young men locally via tragic accidents and the skaters are hoping to dedicate some of their performances in memory to the lads that have tragically lost their lives.”

Admission is £2 for adults with children getting in free.

The day will raise funds for the FixVict project which wants to improve the park’s skate facilities, help local traders who want to improve the Christmas lights and boost a grant scheme for local community groups to apply to.

Town and district councillor Hannah Campbell said: “The skate park is one of the most important youth facilities in the town, so it’s vital that we look after it.”
