A GIRL with cerebral palsy is able to join in with her friends thanks to the generosity of fund-raisers from Worcester.

Isabel Tipping, of Malvern, has been given a special therapy cycle worth more than £1,200 after the money was raised by Worcester cycle team the Green Bike Riders as well as Worcester Round Table.

She was presented with the cycle at the cycle club’s base at the Green Bike Company in Bromyard Road on Saturday where mum Ann Bell, who also contributed to its cost, said it would enable her to join in with her friends as well as her sister Jade, aged nine, and seven-year-old brother Harry, instead of being confined to her wheelchair.

“Isabel is going to be able to do something for herself instead of having to rely on someone to push her around,” she said.

“As well as the social benefits the tricycle will also help with Isabel’s health by giving her physiotherapy and exercise as she can’t walk independently. Her brother and sister are just so happy she is going to be able to join in the fun with them.

“This piece of equipment is just so expensive Isabel could not have received it without support.”

Last year, the team presented four-year-old Felix Jones-Whale, of Kiddermin-ster, with a similar piece of equipment.

The fund-raising was part of an appeal by the Caudwell Children charity – which supports disabled children and their families – and chief executive Trudi Beswick said she was delighted the two fund-raising groups had got together to raise the money for Isabel.

“Equipment like this isn’t available on the NHS and comes at a huge cost to families,” she said.

“By working with fund-raisers in the community crucial donations like this can be made to children like Isabel, helping promote social inclusion and boost self-esteem.”

Green Bike Riders spokes-man Richard Watling said each member of the team donates £1 for each ride they go on, which is put towards a charitable cause in the area.

“The aim is for us to help children with disabilities to enjoy life through cycling, something we sometimes take for granted,” he said.
