Sun shone down on celebration of children's centres
6:30pm Thursday 29th August 2013 in News
THE sun came out to play with youngsters during a special day to mark the 10th anniversary of children’s services around a Worcestershire town.
The Droitwich Area Children’s Centres marked a decade of providing the services with a free event for families. Organised by staff and parents, the event saw families enjoy face-painting, a bouncy castle, tombola and raffle. The Worcestershire County Council-run service held the celebration on the field of Westlands First School. Kate Jones, district manager for services in Wychavon, said: “We had a great day and a really good turnout. “And the sun was shining, which was great.”
More than 200 people attended the event, including the parents who currently use the centre, as well as mums and dads who have used the facilities at some point over the past 10 years. “We want to thank the parents, local communities and variety of local business and professionals who have continued to support us since we started in 2003,” Mrs Jones said.
The centre has significantly grown over the 10 years, with the original number of three staff rising to the current 13.
Local councillors were also out to celebrate the milestone, with Councillor Lynne Duffy greeting guests on arrival, Mayor Tom Noyes cutting a celebratory cake and Coun Gerry O’Donnell presenting a commemorative plaque. The event also gave new families the opportunity to find out more information about what the children’s centres can offer to families.
