Miraculous escape for car driver following early morning crash
8:16am Tuesday 3rd September 2013 in News
A DRIVER will be thanking his lucky stars he wasn't seriously injured following a miraculous escape on a road near Worcester this morning.
Ambulance and fire crews were called to Evesham Road in Egdon just after 4am following reports of a crash and concerns over burning smells.
Ambulance staff arrived to find a car that had collided with a tree and hit a wall.
The vehicle's engine was found about 25 metres away on fire.
But the driver, believed to be in his 30s, managed to free himself from the car suffering merely a suspected broken ankle.
A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “There was massive damage to vehicle. The engine was about 25m away from the car and had been on fire.
“Amazingly, the driver had managed to get out of the car and had not suffered as serious injuries as one would have expected given the level of damage.
“He was immobilised using a neck collar and spinal board as a precaution. His only obvious injury was a suspected broken ankle. “
He was taken to Worcestershire Royal Hospital for further assessment and treatment.
