Bruce does fastest marathon in an animal suit
HE has already broken a Guinness World Record but one marathon runner has now beaten thousands of others to make it into the popular book.
Bruce Moore, from Shrawley, near Worcester, will appear in the Guinness World Records 2014 edition for the fastest marathon in a full-body animal costume (male).
Mr Moore, aged 48, ran this year’s Virgin London Marathon in three hours, 31 minutes and 36 seconds dressed as a gorilla. I don’t think a lot of people realise that only nine per cent of all the world records make it into the book so I am quite honoured to be included,” he said.
“When I was a kid it used to be the best Christmas present around and I have some great memories on Christmas day reading the records with fascination – they’re great. I have already ordered my copy from Amazon and I think I will be ordering a lot more.”
There are more than 1,000 different records in this year’s book and the Guinness World Records holds more than 40,000 unique achievements on its huge database.
But Mr Moore has not stopped yet, and will be putting the gorilla costume back on for the Amsterdam Marathon in October and is debating whether to wear it for next year’s London event.
“When I was running the marathon in it people were making gorilla noises which was fantastic but I don’t know whether to do it in another costume that would give me a faster time,” he said.
“I think I would be upset if someone did take the title from me. I am getting on a bit though so I am sure some youngster will beat my record soon.”
Guinness World Records 2014 edition was released yesterday.
