Imaginations run riot for villages’ scarecrow fun
SCARECROWS of every description were on show around Powick and Callow End as part of a special village festival.
The event was organised by the Friends of St Peter’s Church in Powick, and attracted 21 entries, showcasing imaginative creations to keep the birds at bay.
Organiser Terry Maple said: “It was a great success. As well as the entries, we had 88 people going round judging them and comparing their ratings with the official judges.”
The winning entry was the work of the Anslow family, of Upper Ferry Lane, depicting an old lady with a family who live in a shoe.
“The detail of work that went into it amazed the judges,” said Mr Maple. “It was a real summer project for the family.”
The event raised just over £400, which will go into the friends’ funds to buy a new carpet for the church.
“We started it in 2005 and we did it two or three times before it faded away, but the response this year was incredible and we’ll definitely be doing it next year,” he added.
