Calendar girls make a date with fame
IT is a case of life imitating art for the actresses starring in a daring stage show.
The cast of the Swan Theatre Amateur Company’s production of Calendar Girls have decided to bare all for a fund-raising calendar, which sees them recreating poses made familiar by the popular play and film.
Members of the audience can buy a copy of the charity calendar from the venue in the Moors, Worcester, during its run from Tuesday to Saturday, October 1-5, in aid of Leukaemia CARE.
The company’s chairman, Sue Hawkins, said the proceeds from the calendar sales will be split between the Worcester-based national charity, with the other half helping to keep the group providing theatre in the city.
She said: “It is a funny and heart-warming play, which we have all enjoyed rehearsing and we know the audience will love it. “Despite a few initial nerves, we found the photo-shoot very liberating and empowering and we can’t wait to see the actual calendars.” Helen Whatmore, fund-raising manager at Leukaemia CARE, said: “We are delighted that STAC has chosen to donate such a large proportion of their calendar sales to us and to help raise awareness of Leukaemia CARE. “We get a lot of donations from amateur theatre productions and it’s fantastic that STAC has chosen to support us too.” Leukaemia CARE provides care and support to people affected by a blood or lymphatic cancer, including the families and carers as well as the patients themselves.
