FIREFIGHTERS are currently beginning four hours of industrial action following a row over pensions.
A number of staff in Worcester are expected to join colleagues around the country by walking out between noon and 4pm.
Fire Brigades Union secretary for Hereford and Worcester, Steve Gould, says he’s unsure how many members will attend Worcester’s picket line.
He said those on duty will still respond to major incidents, adding cover will be provided by other “wholetime members” and retained staff.
Earlier this week, Hereford and Worcester Fire & Rescue Service (HWFRS) urged residents to reduce the risk of fire breaking out in their home during the strike.
It said officers will still respond to 999 calls but has asked Worcester residents to take steps to protect loved ones.
“While the industrial action is ongoing we will still be responding to 999 calls, but we are asking members of the public to take extra steps to reduce the risk of a fire breaking out in their home,” said Area Commander Jon Pryce, Head of Operations for HWFRS.
The strike is the first by firefighters for more than a decade.
