Volunteer drivers provide hospital transport service

First published in News

A SERVICE offering transport to those who can not get to hospital and back home on their own has become part of a charity which helps the elderly.

A team of volunteer car drivers in Marlow have been operating for many years and had been based at the Marlow Red Cross Centre until it closed two years ago. It moved to Marlow Age Concern's headquarters in Glade Road in order to continue and now the transport team is being rolled into the charity's services, with all staff becoming members.

It will now be known as Marlow Age Concern Hospital Transport Service.

Pateints needing help to get to medical appointments can call the team for a lift, charged at a rate of 65p per mile.

Call 01628 476139. The booking office is open Monday to Friday from 10 to 11 am. Outside these times a recorded message can be left and responded to on the next weekday.

This is just a brilliant and very caring service being provided for no returns or rewards. It is an excellent example of giving and not just taking. These people must be praised and motivated for their respectful services and compassion.

A great service and very much needed as the NHS has so badly let down those who can no longer get to services that were once but are no longer provided at Wycombe -- And a big big pat on the back for those putting themselves out for others

Just a simple fee of £21.50 pounds one way to Stoke (with the problem of getting back of cause) and £12.30 to Wexham park from Marlow

Please will someone look at getting them some extra funding so that those on limited incomes can benefit from this service without hardship and to get matching services for the other towns in the area that have similar problems accessing the Hospitals
