A SERIOUS three-vehicle crash left a woman seriously injured and a main road blocked.

The incident happened at about 5.25pm on Friday, September 27, on the A4104 near Defford when an Audi A3 travelling towards Upton collided with a Citroen Relay Van travelling in the opposite direction, near the turning for Eckington.

The van, which was hit on the side, span off into the verge while the Audi then collided with a second van, a Volkswagen Transporter that was travelling behind the first.

The driver of the Audi, a woman in her 60s, was taken to the QE Hospital in Birmingham by air ambulance where she was treated for a number of fractures.

The driver and passenger in the first van were uninjured while the driver of the VW van was treated at the Worcestershire Royal Hospital for minor injuries.

The collision blocked the A4104 and it led to a closure of the road for the rest of the evening, which led to tailbacks in the area.

A police spokesman said: “This was a serious collision that could have resulted in far worse injuries for the occupants of the vans. We would like to hear from anyone who saw the collision and has yet to speak to West Mercia Police, as well as anyone who saw any of the three vehicles involved driving on the A4104 in the lead up to the crash.”

Anyone with information should call the police, quoting incident 439s27/09/13, on the non-emergency number 101.
